PIKE LUMBER COMPANY – Kanouse Forest – Privately Owned and Managed Forest - Fulton County, Indiana.

Located in Fulton County Indiana, this example illustrates how proper forest management can have a positive, long-lasting affect on a forest. Purchased in 1967, this 58 acre forest has been extremely productive. With the use of Timber Stand Improvement and Forest Management techniques this forest has produced over 600,000 feet of saw timber, while increasing its initial growing stock two fold. Openings created by the removal of mature, over-mature, diseased, and damaged trees create sun breaks in the forest canopy. Additional light reaching the forest floor increases the health and vitality of the forest.
