NEW YORK'S PRIVATE FORESTS PROVIDE IMPORTANT JOBS AND ENHANCED FORESTS - Hancock, New York.

Private forests in New York and the forest products industry provide over 61,000 jobs within the state. "With 18.6 million acres of forestland, that's almost an acre of forest for every New Yorker. These forests are currently growing 3 times faster than they are being harvested, cleared for development or lost to insects or disease. 62% of the state is covered by forests, an increase of 23% since 1953, 85% of which is privately owned."1

These hardwood forests are important not only for wildlife and wood products, but play an important role in carbon sequestration.
